Richard’s Bistro in Sea Point, Cape Town

Richard’s Bistro, a conception by well-known South African personality Richard Loring, is a tribute to his successful career and at the same time upholds the cultural uniqueness of the Mother City and all it has to offer.

Situated at 229 Main Road, Sea Point (near Glengariff Road), the restaurant is ideal for breakfast, lunch and supper. However, my favourite of the three has to be the fantastic and reasonably priced breakfasts.

We all know that good service is hard to come by and at Richard’s I have been most impressed. Having been for breakfast nearly every second weekend with my family, the waitresses at Richard’s have always wowed me. Their kind and gentle manner coupled with extreme gratefulness is a definite selling point of the place and has encouraged me to return.

As soon as you are seated for the most important meal of the day, your waitress will bring you a rather large basket of pastries, croissants, baguettes and other delightful and freshly baked treats for you to pick and choose. Have one of these with some coffee or tea as a ‘starter’ to your day! There are many different breakfasts on offer at Richard’s including European-style and South African breakfasts. There is something for those who enjoy a simple, small breakfast, those who love cheese platters as the first meal of the day, those who love sweet things for brekky and for those (like myself) who love indulging in a massive and delicious meal that will keep you full right throughout the day. I can say with confidence that a breakfast at Richard’s is by far the best on offer in Sea Point, and most probably the best breakfast and value for money that I have ever had before.

Richard’s Bistro also offers shows a ‘Supper Stage’ which is a truly unique selling point of this restaurant. The entertainment and talent of local artists as part of the ‘Supper Stage’ will surely blow away local and international guests. There are a variety of shows are on offer, from cabaret to jazz as well as unqiue stories from the Mother City. The upstairs ‘Supper Stage’ area above the restaurant has a view of Robben Island as well as a really unique bar decorated with memorabilia from Richard’s 50 years in musical theatre, television, records, movies and caberet. A 3-course buffet meal is part of this experience making Richard’s supper stage the ideal place for parties and celebrations.

Décor throughout the venue is a talking point and images of colourful Bo Kaap houses create a lively and unparalleled environment for guests. Richard’s Bistro is a one-of-kind concept with a fantastic local flair. Be sure to stop by this weekend.
