On Top of the World at the Cape Royale

Our family of three went for a Mother’s Day lunch at 1800, a restaurant at the Cape Royale Hotel in Green Point. The cost was R200 per person and from the moment we walked through the doors we had a splendid time.

The R200 included a delicious three-course meal, a welcome drink, choccies as well as a box of Sally Williams nougat for all the moms. There was a jazz singer who made everyone feel very involved and special and he asked everyone for song dedications. In fact, my grandmother enjoyed it so much that she got up and danced with the singer! The service was also impeccable and a young Zimbabwean woman waited us on. She was most interesting and told us about life back home.

After lunch we spoilt my grandmother with a treatment at the Equinox Spa in the hotel while my mother and I ventured to the top of the hotel to the rooftop deck and bar. The view from the top was truly incredible! You can see the whole of Green Point and the stadium in full view. We were indeed lucky that the weather was good so we could venture to the top. The deck is open every day from 10am to 10pm. This is the ideal place for cocktails when the weather is good. So if there are a few more good days before winter hits full force, then I definitely recommend visiting this place for a cocktail.

All in all, the Cape Royale is definitely a sophisticated hotel with a French flair. The hotel lobby is styled in over the top velvets and a huge vase of flowers is placed at the entrance. The restaurant, 1800, is ideal for a lovely Sunday lunch. The rooftop deck and terrace is a real gem for those wanting to see a view of the entire Atlantic Seaboard while having a cocktail or two. But if you are rather in the mood for a little pampering, the Equinox Spa is the place to be! This is the ideal place to visit on a Sunday afternoon!Image
