An Odd Sight in The Hague, Netherlands

I recently saw a very odd sight on my way home. A tram stopped unexpectedly. Within seconds I saw the reason for its halt – a yellow ambulance quickly came into view next to the tracks and a man was instantly taken off the tram on a stretcher.

An Odd Sight in The Hague

At this exact moment (something I consider extremely efficient coming from South Africa), a ‘horse-mobile’ (man on some sort of cart horse) crossed the tracks in front of the stationary tram. The horse quickly motioned towards the sidewalk pulling a seated man in a white outfit with a red cap.

It was as though three types of efficiency came into play at that exact second in time – the speed of the ambulance, the modern tram and the more old-fashioned mode of transport (but equally efficient in this instance) – a ‘horse-mobile’.

The moment was framed in time. My jaw dropped.
